How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm your pieces carry a gold or silver deposit, mounting, or trim and are shipped in boxes; reference Note item 88182 to document the finish type.
  2. Use sturdy corrugated cartons with cell dividers; wrap each goblet or plate in foam or paper and fill voids so rims and mounts cannot touch.
  3. Stack boxed sets on a pallet with no overhang, add corner boards, and shrink-wrap; mark This Side Up and Fragile for barware and tableware.
  4. Print "NMFC 88180, Class 150, glassware—gold/silver finish, in boxes" on the BOL, and include declared value if the metallic trim increases item value.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable pricing from a fixed Class 150—density changes will not alter the rating.
  • Clear documentation aligned with Note 88182 helps prevent reclass fees and service delays.
  • Protective boxing reduces breakage on luxury drinkware and giftware, lowering claim costs.
  • Faster quoting for hospitality, retail, and e-commerce shipments of trimmed glass sets.
