How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Declare NMFC 88520 and Glassware Group on the BOL; this item ships at fixed Class 85 with boxed packaging, so no density lines are needed.
- Pack each bottle with cell dividers or molded foam, and secure the siphon head with caps or guards so levers and tubes don’t punch through the carton.
- Keep cases upright; add “This Side Up” and “Fragile Glass” on two sides, and use void fill so bottles cannot rattle during LTL handling.
- For pallet loads, choose double‑wall boxes, add a top sheet, corner boards, and stretch wrap with at least three turns; no overhang and avoid stacking heavy freight above.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 85 (no density) reduces reclass disputes and keeps quotes accurate for every shipment.
- Non-hazardous glassware means simpler paperwork and fewer accessorial surprises versus regulated products.
- Damage control: box-only packaging with internal partitions lowers breakage rates, helping cut claims costs and downtime for bar and hospitality operations.
- Operational consistency across locations—standard case-packed siphon bottles streamline replenishment for beverage distributors and refurbishers, improving per‑unit freight costs.
