How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid double-wall boxes with foam, cell dividers, or molded pulp to isolate each glass reflector and prevent lens-to-lens contact.
- List the freight as “Reflectors, NOI, in boxes — Class 100” on the BOL to match packaging and avoid reclass or inspection delays.
- Palletize with a slip sheet and top cap, keep cartons within the pallet footprint, and limit stack height to reduce pressure on fragile glass surfaces.
- For deliveries to body shops, lighting contractors, or dealerships, request liftgate or appointment service and add clear orientation and fragile labels.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 simplifies rating and quoting, eliminating density calculations and reducing reclass disputes.
- Recognized boxed-packaging lowers risk of transit damage and claims when dividers and cushioning meet industry best practices.
- Non-hazardous designation avoids hazmat surcharges and extra compliance steps, accelerating tender-to-pickup timelines.
- Accurate NMFC wording speeds dock processing and supports better carrier selection for delicate glassware shipments.
