How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Select the NMFC 88525 line when booking boxed glass shells or bodies for screw‑type electrical fuse plugs, and list packaging as boxes on the BOL.
- Palletize small inner boxes inside a sturdy master carton (200# test or better), add dividers or cells to protect the glass threads, and cap openings to prevent chipping.
- Keep cartons flush with the pallet—no overhang—and use corner boards plus stretch wrap; mark Fragile/Glass and Top Load Only to reduce stack pressure.
- Class 77.5 is fixed (no density break), but provide accurate piece count, outer carton dimensions, and pallet weight to avoid cubic minimums or reweigh fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with a fixed Class 77.5 simplifies rate shopping and speeds up LTL quoting.
- Correct NMFC use limits reclass penalties and dispute time, protecting margins on delicate electrical components.
- Glassware Group handling cues help carriers stage and stack properly, reducing breakage and claims.
- Boxed-only packaging standardization streamlines fulfillment for distributors and MRO suppliers, lowering packing labor and damage write-offs.
