To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Identify cure state (raw/green, salted, or dried) and species to select the correct NMFC sub-item within the Hides Group; the group itself shows Class N/A.
2. Contain moisture and odor: use plastic-lined bins or sealed gaylords with absorbent pads, then band to pallets and stretch-wrap to prevent brine leakage.
3. Mark the BOL and labels with “Inedible Hides/Pelts/Skins,” list count and moisture state, and note packaging (bundles, crates, or lined bins) for carrier acceptance.
4. Plan pickups away from food cargo, request covered equipment when possible, and target short transit windows to limit odor complaints and OS&D issues.
