How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Write the exact BOL line: “Holders, fumigant bag, fiberboard with cloth pockets, incl. Fumi-disc/Fumi-board, in boxes — NMFC 99670 — Class 110.”
- Keep boxed holders dry and crush-free: use poly bag liners inside cartons, 32 ECT or better boxes, and avoid heavy top-stacking that could deform cloth pockets.
- Do not co-pack with actual fumigants or pest control chemicals; stage these non-haz holders separately to prevent hazmat misclassification during pickup.
- If palletizing boxed sets (e.g., 24 Fumi-disc holders per carton), use a slip sheet, two perimeter bands, and full stretch wrap for stability and easy LTL handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 110 means density is not needed, speeding up quoting and reducing reclass risk.
- Non-hazardous commodity avoids hazmat fees and special paperwork, lowering total landed cost for fumigation suppliers and fleets.
- Box-only packaging simplifies compliance and reduces OS&D claims from moisture or crush damage when cartons are properly reinforced.
- Accurate NMFC 99670 labeling helps carriers accept loads without delays, improving on-time delivery for seasonal fumigation programs.
