How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Package holders/dispensers in sturdy corrugated boxes with internal dividers so cone cradles don’t crush; wrap stainless or acrylic parts to prevent scuffs.
- For flat-packed dispensers, load units on edge and fill voids to keep components from shifting; mark orientation and avoid overpacking light items.
- Palletize boxed cases in a single, square footprint with no overhang, add a top sheet, and stretch-wrap tightly to resist compression in LTL cross-docks.
- List NMFC 99780, Class 100, non-hazardous on the BOL; no density needed. Example description: “Ice cream cone holders, boxed.”
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 removes density math, speeding quotes and reducing unexpected reclass charges.
- Boxed-only guidance cuts damage on lightweight, crush-prone foodservice accessories, lowering claim rates.
- Non-hazardous status expands carrier options and streamlines acceptance for food-contact equipment.
- Consistent NMFC coding simplifies chain-store replenishment and supports predictable LTL consolidation and budgeting.
