  1. Confirm your product type: steel clothesline posts, municipal sign poles, or channel iron uprights qualify under NMFC 104880 when shipped loose or bundled.
  2. Bundle for safe handling: align ends, add wood runners, strap in three points, and cap sharp ends. Long pieces over 8 ft ride better on skids or pipe racks.
  3. Document clearly on the BOL: “Steel Clothes/Sign Posts, NMFC 104880, Class 50, non-hazardous,” with piece and bundle counts. Note the longest length to prevent overlength surprises.
  4. Prevent damage in transit: use edge protectors under straps and block bundles to stop rolling. If shipping channel iron, review Note, item 104881 to confirm applicability.
