Note 107132: NOTE-Applies also on accompanying unattached paper or similar sheathing, or accessories other than tools or machines, for installation.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 107130 on the BOL and describe: steel strand tendons with anchorages; specify if flexible metal or paper sheathing is attached and whether coils or straight lengths.
- Package for LTL: bundle or coil on skids, cap/guard anchor heads, stretch-wrap ends, and block/band to stop shifting and puncture. Example: 7‑wire strand coils banded 4x to a hardwood pallet.
- Keep separate from bare strand or rebar SKUs to avoid miscoding. This item uses a simple Class 60 rating with no density required.
- For jobsite delivery, use side-loadable pallets and Do Not Stack cones to protect sheathing and hardware; reference the Note under item 107132 if specs need clarification.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 60 gives predictable LTL pricing and helps prevent costly reclass charges.
- Explicitly calling out anchorages and sheathing signals specialized prestressing material, improving carrier acceptance and careful handling.
- Correct bundling and guarding reduce OS&D claims and preserve strand integrity, cutting replacement costs and pour delays.
- Accurate NMFC usage speeds paperwork and routing, supporting tight construction schedules and steadier cash flow.
