How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the exact kit makeup (flexible duct, hood material, clamps, wall plate) and select the correct class within 150–200 per NMFC 108090; note it on the BOL as “Kits, dryer vent, boxed.”
- Package to protect mixed components: coil the duct loosely (don’t crush), bag clamps and screws, sleeve or corner-protect the hood, and use a snug corrugated insert so parts don’t abrade the duct.
- For pallet moves, stack cartons upright with flat sides together, add corner boards, strap then stretch-wrap; avoid top-load pressure that could deform plastic hoods or kink ducts.
- Document carton count, dimensions, and actual weight; include a packing list showing number of kits per master carton to speed check-in and reduce reclass or OS&D disputes.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Reduced reclass risk by using the precise NMFC 108090 item and its 150–200 class range, cutting surprise fees.
- Lower damage and reship costs through component isolation and hood protection tailored to these mixed-material kits.
- Better freight quotes and faster tendering since the item is non-hazardous and boxed, simplifying carrier acceptance.
- Optimized carton sizing and palletization can trim dimensional charges and improve cube utilization in LTL networks.
