How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 115130 and Class 70 on the BOL, and label cartons with the item description for quick dock identification.
- Place detached legs and hardware inside the same box; bag fasteners, cushion sharp ends, and mark the carton “Legs Enclosed.”
- Stabilize the cabinet: lock or tie down the ram/platen, secure door latches, pad control panels, and protect power cord ends.
- If palletizing the boxed unit, use a 48x40 four-way pallet, add corner boards, stretch wrap fully, and apply “Do Not Top Load” arrows.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 eliminates density calculations, giving predictable LTL quotes and fewer rating disputes.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and reduces compliance delays or hazmat fees.
- Keeping legs in the same package preserves the correct NMFC, avoiding reclass charges and surprise rebills.
- Damage-reducing prep lowers claims and helps restaurants and bars install equipment faster, minimizing downtime.
