How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Prepare the unit: drain all tanks and lines, cap rinse/wash manifolds, lock doors and guards, and remove loose baskets or trays to avoid in-transit movement.
- Mount securely to a skid or pallet: bolt through base plates, add corner protection, stretch-wrap and band; crate for longer lanes or when shipping with delicate rinse/wash attachments.
- Mark handling details clearly: label lift points and center of gravity, specify Do Not Stack if applicable, and request a liftgate or inside delivery where no dock exists.
- Quote and document precisely: list NMFC 115260 Class 100 on the BOL, include overall dimensions and weight, serial numbers, and pre-shipment photos for easier claims support.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable LTL pricing with a fixed Class 100—no density math, faster quotes, and fewer surprises in the TMS.
- Single item coverage: machines with or without rinsing/washing attachments rate under the same NMFC, reducing reclass risk and accessorial disputes.
- Nonhazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and avoids hazmat fees, expediting transit for production-critical equipment.
- Damage mitigation through proper crating/skidding cuts claim exposure and downtime for bottlers, beverage plants, and labs.
