How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use fully enclosed boxes or export-grade crates and bolt the machine base to a skid; brace nozzles, capping heads, and conveyors to stop vibration during LTL moves.
- Print the BOL with: “NMFC 115280 – Bottlers’ Machinery, NOI – Class 100 – boxed/crated.” Include piece count, crate type, and note non-stackable if applicable.
- Prepare equipment by draining residual product and airlines, locking out moving parts, and padding controls. Remove delicate HMI screens or sensors and pack separately inside the crate.
- Quote accurately by providing gross weight and outside crate dimensions, adding center-of-gravity marks, forklift entry points, and tilt/shock indicators for carrier handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100—no density disputes and fewer costly reclassifications.
- Non-hazardous designation broadens carrier options and speeds tendering across beverage distribution lanes.
- Packaging flexibility—boxes or crates—lets you balance protection and cost for OEM builds, rebuilds, or spare modules.
- Stronger blocking and bolting for tall, top-heavy machinery reduces damage claims and downtime at the bottling line.
