NMFC 116580 - Oil-Tight Chain Casings | Class 85

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Palletize loose iron or steel casings with edge protection and banding; use rubber-cushioned steel strap so sharp corners don’t cut the ties.
2. If casings contain residual oil, cap ports and wrap with absorbent plus a poly overwrap to prevent leakage or staining during LTL transfers.
3. Choose sturdy corrugated or plywood crates for single units; add interior blocking/bracing to keep the casing from shifting or contacting the walls.
4. Mark lift points and center of gravity; prevent fork-tine contact with machined faces by using skids or sacrificial dunnage under the casing.
