How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Count and kit each distributor subassembly before packing; bag all fasteners and label sets clearly (e.g., “Kit 1 of 4”) to keep KD components together in transit.
- For boxes, wrap distributor plates, chutes, and housings with foam and place in double‑wall cartons with snug void fill. For crates, bolt parts to an internal skid and block/brace to stop torsion.
- Protect bearing seats and edges with caps or edge guards, and add orientation labels if alignment matters on install. Use moisture barriers when shipping through humid routes.
- Palletize multiple boxes or the crate, add corner boards, and cross‑strap. Print NMFC 118580 and Class 77.5 on the BOL to prevent reclass and speed dock checks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 77.5 means no density math, enabling fast, consistent LTL quotes and fewer surprises on invoices.
- KD in boxes or crates reduces cube and damage risk versus assembled units, lowering claim rates and costly reships.
- Non-hazardous machinery components expand carrier options and avoid hazmat surcharges or special paperwork.
- Accurate NMFC 118580 coding improves tender acceptance and minimizes reclass fees, detention, and dispute time.
