How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote your LTL using freight class 85 and list NMFC 118600 on the BOL; select boxes for single units or crates for bulk and long assemblies.
- Protect bristles from crush: sleeve or wrap the brush rows, add spacers around the core, and use double‑wall boxes; choose a wood crate when shipping multiple brushes.
- Secure orientation and handling: mark “Do Not Stack” if bristle heads face upward, strap boxes or crates to a pallet, and block to stop rolling or sliding.
- Keep components clean and dry: line packaging with a poly bag or vapor barrier to prevent lint, dust, or moisture that could affect ginning performance.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable cost with fixed freight class 85—faster rate shopping and fewer reclass surprises.
- Damage prevention cuts claims: guarding bristle packs maintains performance, keeping work orders on schedule.
- Right-size packaging: boxes minimize cube for singles, while crating consolidates sets to lower handling and accessorial risk.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and streamlines tendering, reducing admin time.
