How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm NMFC 121560 covers your gages (panel gauges, pressure/dial gages) and choose the approved packaging—boxes or crates—then apply class 92.5 or 100 as specified.
- Protect delicate faces and pointers: wrap with anti‑static foam, cap ports and stems, and place a rigid inner carton; for clustered dash panels, bolt the assembly to blocking inside a wood crate.
- Add shock and tilt indicators, orientation arrows, and strap cartons to a pallet with no overhang; use corner boards so freight can be safely stacked.
- Mark model numbers and calibration tags on the BOL and outer packaging to speed receiving checks and streamline any claim investigation.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Two-class structure (92.5 or 100) delivers predictable rating and lets you capture lower freight costs when your construction and protection qualify.
- Non-hazardous instrumentation avoids hazmat surcharges and extra paperwork, reducing administrative time and accessorial risk.
- Robust cushioning and crating cut damage and recalibration costs, protecting margins and preventing downtime for OEMs and repair shops.
- Packaging aligned with LTL best practices enables consolidations with other auto parts, improving transit performance and lowering handling fees.
