How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote under NMFC 123340 at Class 92.5 and note “ice cutting/sawing machine” on the BOL. No density needed—list the NMFC to prevent reclass.
- Secure moving parts: remove or sheath blades, clamp carriages, lock guards, and bag loose hardware. Use blade sleeves and edge protectors to avoid punctures.
- Palletize or fully crate with vapor barrier and desiccant to combat moisture. Block and brace the frame, protect motors and controls, and mark fragile surfaces.
- Identify center of gravity and lift points on the crate. Request liftgate or inside delivery for rinks, seafood processors, or grocery DCs where docks may vary.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 92.5 delivers predictable LTL quotes and simpler rate shopping across carriers and lanes.
- Non-hazardous status speeds tendering and avoids extra hazmat paperwork, enabling broader carrier options.
- Proper crating and moisture control reduce claim risk on blades, bearings, and electrical panels—cutting downtime for ice operations.
- Clear labeling and handling notes lower reweigh/reclass fees and help keep seasonal shipments on schedule.
