How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose a crate when liners ship with attached cooling or freezing machines; bolt the base to a skid, block the compressor, and brace the center of gravity.
- For bare SU liners, use a double-wall box with foam-in-place or molded end caps, edge guards, and a vapor barrier plus desiccant for aluminum or coated steel surfaces.
- Cap and label any exposed tubing or fittings; isolate delicate fins and copper lines from panel walls using corner blocks and non-abrasive padding.
- Mark orientation and do-not-stack as needed, and print NMFC 123390 Class 200 on the BOL; take packaging photos before tender to support claim prevention.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 200 rating speeds quoting and lowers reclass risk, improving cost predictability for LTL moves.
- Boxed or crated packaging aligns with carrier rules, reducing special handling fees and minimizing accessorial surprises.
- Damage-resistant packing cuts puncture and crush claims on thin liners and tubing, protecting warranty budgets and delivery timelines.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and routing flexibility, often shortening transit and improving rate shopping.
