How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack pads in sturdy corrugated boxes with bags or sleeves to keep pairs clean and matched by model or lot; include OEM part numbers on the carton label.
- Fill voids with light dunnage and avoid over-compression—rubber and polymer pads can take a compression set that affects vibration performance.
- If palletizing multiple boxes, cap and strap the load, mark “Do Not Top Load,” and keep stack height modest to prevent crushing small cartons.
- In cold seasons, request no-freeze handling when possible; elastomer pads can stiffen in freezing temps, so minimize exposure during linehaul and delivery.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 70 rating (not density-based) streamlines quoting and helps control LTL costs for repeat pad shipments.
- Non-hazardous, boxed packaging reduces accessorial risks and speeds carrier acceptance, shortening dock-to-door timelines.
- Accurate NMFC description and part labeling cut reclass/rebill exposure, protecting margins on small, high-volume components.
- Protection against compression and contamination lowers damage claims and returns, keeping assembly lines supplied with spec-ready pads.
