How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Package agitators on heavy-duty skids or inside closed crates; block the gearbox and impeller shaft so nothing rotates during transit, and cap all openings.
- Label the BOL with NMFC 125460 and Class 92.5; add piece count and crate/skid notes so the carrier understands handling needs and avoids reclass delays.
- Protect sensitive components—motors, seals, and control boxes—with foam or plywood bracing; use Tip-N-Tell indicators for tall units with a high center of gravity.
- For used agitators, drain oils and rinse slurry residue; document that the unit is non-hazardous and dry to prevent accessorial clean-up charges.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing from a fixed Class 92.5—no density math or reweigh-based reclass risk for these machines.
- Faster quoting and routing since carriers recognize the machinery profile and standard crated/skidded handling.
- Reduced claims risk when shafts and gearboxes are immobilized, cutting downtime for mine or mill operations.
- Clear NMFC alignment (125460) minimizes billing disputes and keeps LTL invoices closer to initial estimates.
