How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose sturdy boxes or fully enclosed crates; block and brace the hopper, cap cyclone/auger ports, and immobilize motors, guards, and inlets to prevent racking.
- Control center of gravity: add internal braces under hopper legs, mark This Side Up and Do Not Stack, and use tip indicators for tall, top‑heavy mixers.
- For plant, feed mill, or construction site deliveries, crate the mixer and secure it to a pallet; protect discharge gates with plywood and edge protectors.
- List NMFC 125740 and Class 300 on the BOL; request liftgate or appointment service when needed, and provide accurate piece count, dimensions, and weight for each crate.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 300 removes density math, speeding quotes and enabling predictable LTL pricing for every shipment.
- Correct crating and bracing reduces transit damage to augers, cyclones, and hoppers, cutting claims and downtime at job sites.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and avoids hazmat surcharges, lowering total landed cost.
- Accurate classification on the BOL helps prevent reclass fees and rebills, improving margins and shipment cycle time.
