How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack the water motor fully drained and capped, then place it in a double‑wall box or a wood crate with foam or blocking that immobilizes the shaft and housing.
- For heavier units, mount the crate to a skid sized for forklifts, mark center of gravity, and add “This Side Up” arrows to prevent tipping in terminal handling.
- Protect terminal connections and impellers with guards or spacers; bag the unit to keep moisture off labels and include a parts list or serial number inside.
- Print NMFC 125800 and Class 100 on the BOL, and select accessorials like liftgate or residential delivery if shipping to pool service shops or job sites.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 simplifies quoting—no density math—so teams can price and tender LTL faster.
- Correct boxing or crating reduces reclass fees and dispute risk, stabilizing freight budgets.
- Purposeful blocking and crating lower damage rates on motors and impellers, cutting claims costs.
- Clear NMFC alignment streamlines carrier acceptance and improves terminal flow for on‑time delivery.
