How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm actuators are depressurized, cap air ports, and immobilize the piston or linkage; pack in double-wall boxes with dense foam or blocking around the cylinder and end caps.
- Mark each box with model/SKU and orientation arrows; include a clean BOL line reading “Pneumatic damper operators, boxed – NMFC 126155 – Class 77.5.”
- Palletize multiple cartons: use a sturdy pallet, corner boards, two bands, and full stretch wrap; avoid stacking beneath heavy machinery or duct sections.
- If shipping with dampers or mounting hardware, list separate line items when different NMFCs apply; provide piece count and total weight to speed LTL quotes and pickups.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 77.5 delivers predictable rating, reducing reclass disputes and inspection fees for HVAC supply shipments.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat paperwork and surcharges, simplifying carrier selection and improving tender acceptance.
- Boxed packaging lowers damage risk to pistons, seals, and positioners, cutting claim costs and preventing costly project delays.
- Consistent NMFC mapping streamlines quoting for contractors and distributors, enabling accurate LTL rate comparisons and better pallet consolidation.
