Note 130682: NOTE-Applies on tanks for beer cooling for installation in beer coolers and may contain coils or gas regulating devices.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Package the beer cooler in a rigid box or crate; choose a crate for glass-door models or heavier compressors. Add corner guards, foam around coils, cap drain lines, and mark Keep Upright with tip indicators.
- Document the freight as NMFC 130680, Class 100, and note packaging type (box or crate) on the BOL. Reference Note item 130682 for any special conditions and include model/serial for clarity.
- For boxed units, strap and stretch-wrap to a 48x40 pallet with edge protectors and zero overhang. Block the base to prevent shift and avoid stacking to protect refrigerant system integrity.
- Pre-book needed accessorials such as liftgate, residential, or inside delivery. For long hauls or tight delivery windows, upgrade to crating and add cargo insurance to minimize disruption at bars or venues.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100—no density math—reducing reclass fees and speeding up quotes and tendering.
- Right-sized packaging (especially crating for premium units) lowers damage odds on glass, shelves, and compressors, cutting claims and replacement delays.
- Non-hazardous designation broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges, improving transit flexibility and total landed cost.
- Clear NMFC and packaging details on the BOL help prevent disputes, rework, and storage charges, keeping dock operations fast and clean.
