How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Palletize hubs with faces alternating and use wood saddles or V‑blocks to stop rolling; band tightly with edge protectors to prevent strap bite.
- Cap or plug bearing bores and wrap machined flanges with VCI paper or foam to shield surfaces from rust and abrasion during LTL handling.
- Record piece count, per‑piece weight, and total pallet weight on the BOL; note hub diameter ranges if mixed sizes ride on one skid.
- For export or long hauls, crate heavy hubs with blocking and lag bolts; keep center of gravity low and mark lift points for forklift tines.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Damage reduction on precision-machined hubs lowers returns and rework costs across agricultural equipment supply chains.
- Clear packaging and documented weights minimize reclass/reweigh disputes, protecting margins and quote accuracy.
- Consolidating multiple hubs per skid boosts cube efficiency and can improve LTL rates per unit shipped.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier selection and transit planning, helping orders move faster with fewer exceptions.
