How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack the plastic container, electric aerator or pump, and growing media in a sturdy corrugated box; double-bag media to prevent dust or spill during transit.
- Secure the pump/aerator and power cord with ties and cushioning so they cannot crack the container; add edge and corner protection around the plastic bin.
- If plant nutrients are included, seal them separately in leakproof inner bags or jars and label as non-hazardous dry/liquid nutrients to avoid confusion at terminals.
- On the BOL, list NMFC 155805, Class 92.5 and packaging as boxes; for multi-box kits, number each box, use one PRO, and palletize when shipping 4+ boxes together.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs with a fixed Class 92.5—no density calculations and fewer reclass or inspection fees.
- Faster quoting and approvals since NMFC 155805 clearly describes boxed hydroponic kits with pumps/aerators and media.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges or extra paperwork.
- Lower claim risk when media is sealed and containers are cushioned, reducing damage expenses and total landed cost.
