How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the shipment is KD or KD flat and fully boxed; pad sharp edges on gates, standards, and ground lines, then strap cartons to a pallet with corner boards to prevent crush damage.
- Pack jump sets by kit: label boxes with contents (e.g., 2 standards, 1 gate, 1 flower box) so event crews can stage arenas quickly at delivery.
- Palletize long pieces (ground lines, cavalletti rails) with end caps and no overhang; keep heavier wall or brush box panels low and distribute weight evenly.
- On the BOL, cite “NMFC 16655 – Class 70, Athletic Goods, Non-Hazardous” to avoid density reclass and ensure carriers rate the freight correctly.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 provides predictable rating, reducing reclass fees and invoice disputes for arena-equipment shipments.
- KD boxed components improve cube efficiency, letting you load more jump sets per pallet and lowering cost per set.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier selection and limits compliance delays, keeping show schedules on track.
- Correct NMFC usage speeds cross-dock handling and cuts OS&D risk, improving delivery reliability for events and training facilities.
