How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the correct subclass for plastic, metal, or wooden shoehorns and note the 60–100 class on the BOL; the item is listed as boxed.
- Nest retail sleeves into sturdy master cartons; add dividers or polybags to protect polished finishes and tape seams with 2-inch pressure-sensitive tape.
- Palletize tightly with corner boards and a top cap so boxes stack safely; keep to a 48×40 footprint and mark cartons “Boxed Shoehorns.”
- For replenishment shipments, pack by standard dozens per carton to streamline counts and speed dock checks, minimizing inspection delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Non-hazardous, boxed designation reduces special handling fees and accelerates quoting.
- Defined class range (60–100) improves rate forecasting across different materials and SKUs.
- Standard carton and pallet presentation lowers claim risk and avoids density disputes.
- Efficient cube utilization from compact cartons drives better LTL rates per unit shipped.
