How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle or crate each sled with steel banding and corner protectors; add a moisture barrier to limit rust during cross-dock stops.
- Stage bundles on sturdy 4‑way pallets or skids; block between sled runners and the deck so the load cannot slide under clamp or sudden braking.
- Keep the bundle within the pallet footprint to prevent overhang; for example, avoid placing a 50-inch bundle on a 48x40 pallet.
- List the BOL as “Sleds, artillery moving, steel, in packages — NMFC 176740, Class 85” and apply labels on two adjacent sides for easy scan.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
