How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List the item on your BOL as “Chassis, SU (wheels on/off), NMFC 190150” and include make/model details when known to avoid reclass questions.
- If wheels are on, chock and strap all four corners; if wheels are off, place the frame on cradles or stands and band it securely to a skid or cradle.
- Cap open brake and fuel lines, tie off loose harnesses, and bag small hardware (lug nuts, spacers) so nothing shakes free in transit.
- Review Note, item 190171 for the SU definition and any stacking or blocking expectations; do not stack unless carrier and note allow it.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 removes density calculations, speeding quotes and reducing reclass disputes.
- Coverage applies whether wheels are installed or removed, keeping one consistent item number through planning and pickup.
- Non-hazardous status improves carrier acceptance and minimizes hazmat-related surcharges or documentation.
- Clear NMFC alignment (190150) lowers admin time, improves claim defensibility, and stabilizes LTL rate negotiations.
