How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Print NMFC 192980 and Class 92.5 on the BOL, and describe as jeep-type cloth tops with metal frames, KD flat, boxed or bundled.
- Pack frames and hardware separately inside the box: wrap metal with foam or corrugated to prevent rubbing through the cloth, and use edge protectors under banding.
- Keep components KD flat: nest frames laid flat, bag the fabric to keep out oil and moisture, and avoid stacking heavy freight on top during transit.
- If bundling instead of boxing, band to a pallet with corner boards and a top cap; photograph packaging and count sets per handling unit for claims protection.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 92.5 simplifies rating, reducing reclass fees and invoice disputes on LTL lanes.
- KD flat configuration lowers cube versus assembled tops, improving space efficiency and freight costs.
- Boxed or well-bundled packaging cuts damage risk on cloth and frames, minimizing claims and returns.
- Clear NMFC usage speeds carrier acceptance and warehouse receiving for upfitters, dealers, and aftermarket distributors.
