How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 24760 on the BOL and describe precisely: iron davits, pair count, longest length, and whether winch bases or mounts are attached.
- Secure packaging: bolt each arm to a pallet or inside a wood crate, block/brace pivots and yokes, cap threaded ends, and use VCI wrap plus edge guards.
- For long pieces, bundle with padded contact points, apply two or more bands, mount on a 4‑way pallet, and mark center of gravity and any overlength warnings.
- Bag small hardware (sheaves, pins, bolts) and fasten it to the main skid; include a packing list and photos to streamline receiving and claims.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct Boat Group identification reduces reclass risk for a class‑not‑listed item and helps carriers rate consistently.
- Palletized or crated davits minimize handling and damage, lowering claim exposure and avoiding many long or non‑stackable accessorials.
- Corrosion and surface protection preserve finish on arrival, cutting rework costs for marinas, yards, and OEMs.
- Accurate dimensions and stackable packaging improve trailer utilization, often securing better LTL rates and fewer overlength fees.
