How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm your items match scope: boxed footwear, boots, and shoe findings like shanks, heels, taps, box toes, toe caps, and uppers (non-cellular plastics, rubber, leatherboard, fiberboard, steel).
- Calculate density per carton: length × width × height (inches) ÷ 1728 = cubic feet; weight ÷ cubic feet = PCF. Use that PCF to select the proper class within 50–400.
- Package metal components (steel toe caps, plates, shanks) with inner wrap and corrugated dividers, then place in a sturdy box to prevent punctures and carrier damage claims.
- List on BOL as “Boot or Shoe Findings, NOI, in Boxes – NMFC 28130 – density __ pcf.” Separate mixed densities into distinct pallets or cartons to avoid reclass.
