Note 35932: NOTE-When in shipments of 24,000 pounds or more, provisions include accompanying equipment of hangers.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Stiffen delicate edges: use double-wall cartons with foam, edge protectors, and slip sheets; for oversized capitals or brackets, switch to custom wood crates.
- Palletize flat on a solid deck with zero overhang, then use soft strapping and corner boards; mark Do Not Stack if protruding ornamentation could crush.
- Record true outer dimensions including decorative projections, and list NMFC 35920 plus the item name (capitals/brackets/ornaments) on the BOL with piece count and packaging type.
- Plan jobsite needs: request liftgate, limited-access, or call-ahead service for deliveries to restoration sites or historic facades, and photo-document condition before wrapping.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct NMFC labeling helps prevent reclass charges and billing disputes for architectural metal trim.
- Protective crating and edge guarding cut claim risk on thin-gauge sheet metal, lowering total landed cost.
- Accurate dimensions and non-stackable notes reduce exceptions, speeding LTL transit and minimizing delay fees.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options, improving rate shopping and scheduling flexibility for project timelines.
