How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Box each flush door insert with edge guards and foam around any glazing; use corrugated or honeycomb cells to keep louver blades from bending.
- For multi-box moves, palletize with a rigid top sheet to prevent strap crush, mark This Side Up, and label clearly as Flush Door Insert.
- Remember: glazed or unglazed, with or without perforated metal, all qualify under NMFC 38020 at Class 70—avoid mislabeling as lighting fixtures or HVAC grilles.
- Provide counts and largest box dimensions for quotes, keep per-box weights manageable to reduce handling damage, and add moisture barrier for jobsite deliveries.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Single Class 70 across variants simplifies rating and reduces reclass risk, keeping LTL quotes predictable.
- Boxed presentation protects delicate glass and louver fins, lowering claim frequency and install delays on site.
- Predictable NMFC mapping supports consolidated millwork shipments to distributors or projects, improving lane pricing leverage.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines paperwork and scheduling for time-sensitive construction phases.
