How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the product form and moisture level (pressed sheets, fluff, granules) to align with NMFC 41910 and select the appropriate class within 55–100 based on protection.
- Pack in sturdy double‑wall corrugated boxes with poly liners to control dust and humidity; add desiccant if needed and mark cartons “Keep Dry.”
- Palletize with corner boards, a top cap, and tight stretch wrap; band to the pallet and limit stack height to prevent crushing of lighter pulp boxes.
- Write the BOL commodity as “Cellulose, woodpulp, NOI, boxed,” include NMFC 41910, chosen class, piece count, and dims/weight for quoting; verify with your carrier or NMFTA listing.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Optimized box protection can qualify shipments for lower classes within 55–100, reducing cost per hundredweight.
- Accurate NMFC 41910 descriptions cut reclass fees, inspections, and transit delays.
- Moisture and dust control lowers damage claims and vendor chargebacks, improving service metrics.
- Standardized boxed specs make multi-carrier LTL bids easier and pricing more predictable across lanes.
