How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on the BOL as: Vehicle Body Sealer Compounds, extruded/die-cut, NMFC 50331, Class 60; include total package count and actual weight.
- Prevent sticking and deformation: place strips or die-cuts on release liner, bag in poly, and box in sturdy corrugated cartons with dividers kept flat.
- Control temperature in transit; avoid high heat that can soften the composition and cold that can make it brittle, especially during cross-dock handling.
- Palletize cartons square on the deck with slip sheets; strap gently with corner boards and mark Do Not Top Load for soft, shape-sensitive pieces.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable spend with fixed Class 60 rating—no density math, fewer reclass surprises, and faster quoting.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and broadens carrier options, improving transit flexibility.
- Clear packaging in standard cartons reduces claim risk by protecting tacky surfaces and precise shapes.
- Weight-based classification streamlines data capture at pickup and minimizes weight-and-inspection disputes.
