Note 63423: NOTE-Will not apply on paper or paperboard coil winding cores or tubes.

Note 63424: NOTE-Will not apply on plastic transformer cores. Refer to the provisions of item 156600.

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Confirm whether you’re shipping complete transformers or loose parts, then check NMFC notes 63423 and 63424 to see if a more specific item supersedes 63420.
2. Palletize or fully crate with internal blocking and bracing; protect coils, bushings, and terminals with caps and cushioning, and band the unit solidly to the skid.
3. Mark center of gravity and add handling labels such as Do Not Tilt and Keep Upright; use wide skids that prevent overhang and allow forklift tines from both sides.
4. For LTL, include NMFC 63420 on the BOL with piece count and special handling instructions; photograph packaging and record serial numbers to support claims if needed.
