How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Measure the exterior cabinet footprint (L x W x H), including heater guards and mounting tabs, and declare whether it’s boxed or crated on the BOL.
  2. Stabilize the bowl or trough inside the cabinet with blocking and foam; secure any heater leads and cover sharp edges to prevent carton rub-through.
  3. Choose crates for heavy-gauge or oversized cabinets; use double-wall corrugated boxes for compact units, then strap to a pallet for clean forklift access.
  4. Mark “No Water Tank—NMFC 66350” and reference the applicable NMFC note (66193) to prevent misclassification and reduce inspection delays.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Precise dimensions help qualify shipments toward the lower end of Class 70-85, reducing the risk of reclass fees and unexpected rate hikes.
  • Non-hazardous designation speeds carrier acceptance and avoids hazmat surcharges, simplifying route planning and tendering.
  • Packaging flexibility (boxes or crates) lets you balance material spend with damage prevention, improving claim outcomes on metal cabinetry.
  • Clear protection for heaters and cabinet mounts cuts in-transit damage, preserving installation timelines for farm operations and service crews.
