How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify fit for 83980: the pool table uses a non-slate bed and ships KD or with legs folded. If stone or slate is involved, reference the notes for other item numbers (e.g., 83982 or 83984).
- Package in heavy-duty boxes, wood crates, or Package 1317. Pad rails and pockets, cushion the bed surface, add corner boards, then strap to a pallet and mark “This Side Up/Do Not Stack.” Example: two cartons secured on a 72x44 pallet.
- Consolidate multi-piece sets into one handling unit. Label 1 of 2, 2 of 2 clearly, shrink-wrap together, and list pieces accurately on the BOL. Keep accessories in a separate small carton inside the crate when possible.
- Plan accessorials for long, bulky cartons—liftgate and residential delivery are common for game rooms. Share site constraints and delivery appointments to reduce re-delivery fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 rating removes density calculations, speeding quotes and cutting rating disputes.
- KD or folded-leg construction trims oversize risk, improving trailer cube and lowering LTL costs.
- Multiple approved packaging options (boxes, crates, Package 1317) broaden carrier acceptance and reduce claim exposure.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier compliance and allows easy consolidation with cues, balls, and lights in the same shipment.
