Note 86631: NOTE-Applies only on glass cut to size and shape for installation in automobile or boats. Automobile glass includes glass for recreational vehicles (RVs), travel trailers or horse trailers.

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Select the packing method by piece size and whether it’s framed: use boxes/crates meeting Packages 304, 315, 1180, 2034, or 2147, or ship on dedicated glass carriers/racks per item 86632.
2. Keep lites vertical and protected: pad edges and corners with rubber or foam, interleave paper/film to prevent rub, and band to a pallet or rack at gasket-safe points. Mark Fragile and Do Not Stack.
3. Document precisely on the BOL: “Glass, automobile or boat—windshields, NMFC 86630.” Note with/without frames, rack used, piece count, and largest dimensions. Reference notes 86631 (fittings) and 86632 (racks).
4. Coordinate handling with the carrier: request glass-capable handling, side-load access, or fork extensions, set delivery appointments, and photograph condition pre- and post-pack for claim protection.
